Wanna play a little game with me?

It's called 'Degrees of Separation', you may already know the rules.  Here we go...

Item 1, my very first Owl, originally posted June 2007 (both here on the blog and also in my original Flickr photostream)

Item 2, slight change to the design and we have the Owl egg cosy pattern, originally posted June 2008 (both here on the blog and also in my original Flickr photostream)

Item 3, Monsoon Accessorize ditzy Owl keyring.

 You decide!

Edited to add - I posted this, then deleted it while I contacted Monsoon, but have since decided to post it again as I've since purchased one of these keyrings and it's even more similar in real life than it looks in the picture.

  2. You need to make a keyring! Yours would be much cuter!

  3. Looks like a cheap imitation of your little owl - amazing how close the colours and patterns are matched to yours - I often wonder how closely our art work is scrutinised by others!!!!

  4. Hate when this happens! Why do people think this is okay?

  5. Have you contacted them? I should.

  6. Oh my God! Blatant copy- go kick some ass!

  7. this looks like complete rip off, I can't see even a thing that someone doing this tried to make different way, everything is in the same place and colors and patterns - that is so bad, try to contact them and see what they say :(

  8. Uhoh! The people in that shop made a booboo.

Assume you will be contacting their legal department?

  9. looks like a copy to me :(

i guess imitation is the highest form of flattery? still very annoying though.

  12. hhhmmm looks very similar, you should have patented that owl and you could have made a fortune.

  13. Looks FAR too similar to be a mere coincidence - even if it is a keyring and not a stuffed owl or egg cosy. I'd contact them immediately. Best of luck x

  14. I have seen tons of owl patterns out there, but that one sure looks exactly like yours, even the fabric on the front. Sadly it happens to all of us. I had someone buy one of my patterns, then take a design from it and change a few things, then sell it as her own.

  15. It's a rip off alright! I've heard about Monsoon doing this before. Because they are such a big company they can get away with it. Contact Mumsnet and get them to veto the shop! They'll lose loads of customers. By the way - turned over my sewing calendar yesterday to find your fabric toadstool. Still as cute as ever.

  16. again? so unfair you keep having this happen to you. if things like this keep happening people will very soon stop sharing their amazing original art works and that will be a miserable day for all :(

can't be 100$ sure but weren't Monsoon involved in knocking off a ring design some 18mths back? maybe I am thinking of someone else entirely..

  17. that should have read '100% sure' no $$ intended lol

  18. Hmm, I'm sure that Julie over at Little Cotton Rabbits had something like that happen to her last year? And I seem to remember she took on Tescos and won!!! Might be worth contacting her? Best of luck! xx

  20. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Not when they're making profit though.

I've seen another similar owl too, made into a cushion I think but he looks the same! I'll try and find and post you a link.

Trend setter for sure. Pity they couldn't use it as inspiration for their own ideas though.

  21. mmm, yep, knockoff. makes my stomach in knots.
good luck on this one, whatever you decided to do.

  22. Well, at first I would be very very flattered about seeing 'my' design in a leading chain store, then, I would be well and truly hacked off that I hadn't been given any credit or worth for my design. Very sad. Hope you sort it out with good results.
