I know how lucky I am to have a dedicated space to work in. It's the smallest bedroom, has no bed in it at the moment as it's crammed to capacity with a desk and shelves stuffed full of books and felted wool. After an hour or so of blog hopping yesterday, it kind of inspired me to show the warts and all side of things. This is my desk...
I can't even bring myself to post it in full focus, it's that embarrassing. In amongst the cans of coke and bars of chocolate, I'm not actually sure there's any room to work. I'm posting it as I'm almost certain that in a blogosphere full of 'corners of my home that contain beautifully styled vignettes' type posts, I can't be alone in keeping it real, can I??!

You are certainly not alone. I have just moved and when I packed up my crafty stuff I was ashamed of myself at how scruffy my working space was! I couldn't take any pics and show - too shameful! Having just unpacked I am hoping to keep it tidy (but for how long?) Sue x
My room's like that at the minute- I have brought the rest of the stuff down from when I moved rooms so I have the last of the sorting to do. Bearing in mind I moved rooms about 8-10 months ago...
Of course you are not alone , count me as no,. 2 . When I,m fishing for certain fabric my bench gets clogged
you can add me to the list. I also have a small room with shelves and a desk full of things and during this week i've been trying( again) to figure out a better way to organize it.. that's something i do often, in what looks like a never ending search of an ideal/magical way of keeping it tidy :P
Hi Kate - you should link up with us on a Wednesday when we show our "WOYWW" Whats on Your Workdesk Wednesday" view of your workspaces - warts and all! Its great to see what other crafters are up to and to see that their workdesks are just as untidy as mine is sometimes! x Jo
Creative minds are rarely tidy. You should see my dining room (no dining possible in any shape or form)!
Hahahahahahaha - no you are not on your own. Check out my post from the start of May http://swirlyarts.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/real-life-alert.html More real life :)
It's refreshing to see a REAL workplace. I just don't believe that any actual sewing/creating gets done in those super perfect work spaces that we see so often. (those perfect work spaces remind me of IKEA show rooms--I'm always squinting to see if I can find price tags hanging off everything).
hahaha,, when you show me that, i can say that you're not alone. my workspace is just like yours :) . if it's clean, it mean that i didn't work that time :D
No, you're definitely not alone!! My work space is sometimes the sofa, sometimes the table in the front room, and my stash of supplies has spilled over from being inside the sewing table (which doesn't get used as a sewing table because the top of it is covered in boxes full of cloth etc!) into an old tool box (donated to me in the hope that I would keep my stuff more tidy... ummm... it didn't work out) and also into several plastic bags that decorate the living room. I agree with everyone else, a tidy space equals a bored mind!
Chocolate! I knew my workspace was missing something. Thank-you for the keeping it real kind of post. Colourful and styled vignettes are all well and good for when we rest a take a break, but your studio is where the real action takes place.
I keep a container of dove dk chocolate bites at the ready. I have spent the last three days of my sewing time cleaning up and organizing my sewing room. The results are just starting to show. Another weekend of organizing and I will be happy. How did this mess get so bad?
AH I sometimes wonder about these people who have immaculate homes, how do they live like that! Its awful ha ha nice to see Im not the only messy one ; )
you know what that is so tidy compared to mine!
It has been seriously getting me down so i have made a big step and i am now renting a shop unit - i collect the key on tuesday and cannot wait to get in there and make it mine :)
nice to see other's live like me!
I don't have a room to work in so my projects are crammed into a large cupboard, on bookshelves, under my bed, behind the sofa, etc. Whenever I can't find a place for supplies I've gathered I find a place in my attic. So you can imagine what that looks like!
So, no, you're definitely not alone!
Your workspace is so much neater than mine! Compared to mine, it is uber-organized!
