Sharing...

As a parent, sharing is a quality I try to bestow within both my children.  Being able to share, is a valuable quality for a child to have, and thankfully, reduces the amount of squabbling as a result.  I love watching my two play together, even when it does come as a result of bellowing at them, 'No, they are not all yours, share please!'.

(charity shop buys from the weekend)

How much you are willing to share is a topic I'm sure all bloggers will have thought about.  I am in awe of how generous some can be with how much of their home, work, family and life they are willing to expose online, and sometimes wish that I was more comfortable with being more open myself.  I am, however, more guarded when it comes to my nearest and dearest, mainly down to the fact that it is here for anyone to see, the world wide web is exactly that, world wide.  It would be lovely to assume everyone who visits, reads, comments or links to this blog is a crafter, but I know that is not always the case and it would be naive to think so.

For those bloggers who don't already have one, I would suggest adding some sort of a sitemeter, it can be quite an eye opener to see where your blog traffic is actually coming from, and who, where and what it is linking back to.

(two kittens in their finished cushions)

So, while you may not see many corners of my home (it's a mess), pictures of my children (they are lovely, but they pick their noses), and what we're having for dinner (pot noodle doesn't photograph well anyway!), but what you will see is a glimpse of someone who, after spending over 11 years working full time within the restraints of the UK textile industry, is currently lucky enough to be spending some time at home with little ones, and having lots of fun.  Making things with fabric and felt, aiming to build some kind of a small business out of it, whilst enjoying sharing this new found freedom with all of you!.

I know what you mean about the sharing - and maybe I'm doing too much but it would be hard to go back. I love all your charity shop buys - especially those buttons and can't wait to see what you make next!

Ha ha - I think Pot Noodle would photograph just dandy - although then you'd probably get a string of PN voyeurs tuning in!

I think you're wise to be guarded, I try not to feature my children too much, but I figure my hubby is big enough (and gorgeous enough) to look after himself!

Very cute kitties in cushions, btw.

Fabulous buttons - I've never found buttons in charity shops yet, though this morning came across some rather gorgeous cereal bowls - 49 pence each!

I relate to everything you've written here - I took a decision, before starting the blog, that I wouldn't give the kids names away, or say where, precisely, we are, or photograph them in any 'identifiable' way; though of course I totally respect those who choose to do any or all of those things. We can each only do what feels 'right' for us can't we?

Take care. x

I am glad you share what you do and love looking at all the wonderful things you create, including these cute cushions. I agree that we can only do what feels right and comfortable for ourselves! Have a great week

I think it's wise to be guarded. You never really know who's reading your blog and it's better to be safe than sorry, especially when children are involved.

I love the new kitten pillows. They're adorable.

Just curious, is Charity Shop the name of a store or is it a second hand shop?

I agree about TMI going into a blog. I don't post specifics to a lot things on my blog.

I do show my kids, but never face on, and never their names. My husband and I made that decision when I started to blog.

By the way, I really love the fact that those kittens get to have their own cushions, and get to sit in their pockets all snug and warm!

As a crafter I find your site very inspirational. I enjoy the fact that you focus on your craft, and visit frequently. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing (lol!!) your thoughts.

After reading your entry I went through my blog and realised I had DD's name on mine as well as a picture of her - both have now been deleted.

I added sitemaster yesterday but have had no visitors yet (according to it)

I think you are very wise not to expose your (probably adorable) children on your blog. Your work speaks volumes about you and your children are fortunate to have such a very talented mom. Love your designs!!

Love the cooment about pot noodle...ahhh our perfect lives out us sometimes!!!
As for sharing, I think you are wise to be a little careful...

I fully understand your reticence - which is why I don't put up full face pics of my little ones, and I don't use their names, or those of my friends and family. I'm sure anyone who actually knows me would recognise me, but I am careful not to use my reaal name when commenting or writing - a google search on your name ("your" as in anyone, not specifically you!) can be very revealing and show up stuff from years and years ago, so it pays to be careful!
