Question, what do you do when your husband rips his trousers?

Do you,

a. Point and laugh hoping to maximize his embarressment

or

b. Grab them before he puts them in his 'chop it up for oily rags' pile and make these -

Now, anyone who knows me will agree that I am a true 70's child in that I love brown and I love corduroy, so the two together were too good to miss. Simply by chopping off both legs, sewing across the bottom, adding lining and a strap and...voila!, two rather nifty bags. The lining for this one is a charity shop bought pillow case, cost 50p!, the strap is attached using some buttons I cut off a jumble sale bought coat. I blanket stitched the top edge and flap, finishing it off by adding one of my felt corsage brooches.

This one is all laid out ready to sew, lining is some fabric I already had, and I've covered four buttons to match. I did start stitching it together this evening but the pocket has a thick corner to it and I snapped my needle, so put it down and decided to eat chocolate instead!.

I feel like a bona fide blogger now with all this thrifting and making my first tote bag.

LOL I had a giggle at your title! LOL Those bags are just gorgeous, gorgeous! I especially adore the one with the pocket, those sweet little flowers on the handles really make it.
Gorgeous!

Great recycling! I used a pair of my husbands old jeans to make draught excluders. The bags are great and I love the animals you make too especially the cats. Great blog!

What a great idea! I think I may have a go with some my hubby's jeans (s'pose I best make sure he doesn't want them first, eh?!). (And I have never made a bag before either)

That looks fantastic - using the pocket from the trousers is such a good idea - and also love the flowers.

I shall go upstairs immediately and start making small holes in my husband's trousers to speed up their demise! Yay!

Bravo! The bags look great - it would've been such a waste had you let your hubby toss the ripped pants into the rag bag. I must warn you though, that now that you discovered the joy of repurposing clothing you may not want to wait until the clothing gets ripped... you may find yourself buying cloths or linens at thrift stores so that you can recycle them into something new ;o)

LOL.....now me, I would just think about using them & store them away for "when I ge the time!" A bit like the beige cords DH doesn't wear anymore or that lovely brown needlecord shirt from Next DH had 10 years ago....and I still have stashed away all ready to make something with!!

Great bags!!!Fab work!!

Hi, I found you through other people's comments, and I just wanted to say that I love these bags.

But what I love more is the fact that your first instinct was to point and laugh at your hubbys ripped trousers! (That would be mine too :) )
