Toadstools for Etsy

I really want to add some toadstools to my next range for Etsy. 'Pink' has been on hold as the fabric I have on order hasn't arrived yet, so working with what I already have in my stash, I came up with the idea of adding a butterfly.

In addition to the buttons on the top, I've embroidered seeding and some french knots,

and used part of a thrifted crochet doilie (or is it doily?, how do you spell that word?!) to add decoration to the stalk.

The butterfly is actually a brooch and is removable!

PS, Don't forget about the toadstool swap, deadline for signing up is Friday 16th May (see the previous post for details)

On my desk on wednesday...

...there are some new bits & bobs which will be soon available on Etsy.  Anyone else who makes things to sell will know what a learning curve it can all be, even with over 11 years experience as an in-house designer, there has still been a lot of trial and error, not to mention fitting crafting in around children wanting feeding, drinks, clean clothes and broken toy cars mending!

Thank you for all the lovely comments about the felt bag, my mum hasn't seen it yet, it was her birthday yesterday but I have kept hold of it for now as she is coming for a visit with us over easter weekend.

Have a good easter, I will be back next week, no doubt, a little spottier/heavier, from eating far too much chocolate, yum!

Butterflies, and other stuff,

Another new pattern , this time for a brooch, being tried out, leaf needs working on still, not happy with this attempt, but in the meantime, the plan is now to test drive it and see how well it survives on my jacket!

...and, here's a sneaky peek of my valentine swap, errrr, thingy! (shhh, it's a secret), excellent swap organised by the lovely Lucy Locket.

The big news in Lucykate land, is I have managed to get myself the last place on a Julie Arkell workshop being held on the 2nd February, here, in my home town! The list arrived this morning as to what I have to bring, looks like a bit of a thrifting trip is going to be needed (any excuse!) for some of the bits & bobs, old books, fabrics etc...

I'm so excited!

Fun with felt and the last 2 interesting facts!

There are lots of birthdays coming up plus it is almost the end of term and I decided to make the teacher and assistant something rather than buy. So the evenings have turned into a little production line, this is the result so far. The brooches work really well attached to the front of a card, they can be removed after the event and hey presto, you have your gift! This lot is using some more of the printed felt I got from Coats Crafts UK and also 1 solitary felted ball made from their 'Filz' fiber range. I have yet to perfect my wet felting technique and this is the only ball that stayed in one piece, so any tips or advice on how to do it is welcome!.

This lot are made using felt from my ever increasing stash and some patchwork and Rowan fabric. The green, brown and orange one is for a friend, who wears a lot of brown and orange, I just hope she likes it.

The pink and brown one is actually for ....... me!. Which leads me to intesting facts no's 6 & 7,

Today is my birthday, I am 37 and the brooch is my present to myself. We even have a babysitter tonight and are going out for a meal without the children for the first time in ages.

And, yesterday evening, I became an aunty again. My youngest brother and his partner had a little baby girl, Pollyanna, weighing in at 6lbs 10ozs so congratulations to them all.

Another felt brooch

Made for a craft challenge, brief being, 'purple star'. Again, the printed spotty felt from Coats has crept in there!. This one is actually my second attempt as the first was star shaped but looked too much like a sheriffs badge.

Felt Corsage

Coats Crafts UK have sent me some samples from their new range of 'Printz Felts' to have a go with. There are about 9 different designs, flowers, patterns, check, stripes, I have fallen in love with the spotty one!. Have been busy finishing a rag doll project for a new crafts for kids book due out in october, so have only had time to put together this little corsage. No stitching on it yet, but I suppose it is my 'wip' this week (work in progress)!.
